L2M Rail is incubated and seed-funded by the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, one of the country’s top research institutions, the company leverages the institution’s vast research infrastructure and expertise, positioning itself at the forefront of advanced railway technologies. L2M Rail’s core strength lies in the development of Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) optical sensors and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), integrating technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Big Data, and 5G. These systems enable seamless, real-time monitoring and management of railway infrastructure, ensuring higher safety standards and operational effectiveness. A standout product in their portfolio is the Wheel Impact Load Detection (F-WILD) system, developed in partnership with Indian Railways and the Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO). This innovative technology detects and monitors railway wheel defects, significantly reducing the risk of accidents while improving maintenance protocols.
L2M Rail has received multiple accolades, including recognition under the Start-up India initiative and funding support from the Government of Karnataka through the Elevate 2018 program. The company has also been awarded CSR grants by Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) and was recently named ‘Rail Business Start-up of the Year’ by Urban Transport News in collaboration with the Indian Association of Urban Rail and Mobility Industry (IAURMI).
Expanding beyond railway innovation, L2M Rail is exploring new frontiers in structural health monitoring (SHM) for infrastructure such as bridges and tunnels. Their expertise in sensor technology is also being adapted for use in sectors like defense, healthcare, and agriculture. In just five years, L2M Rail has filed nine patents and developed several breakthrough products that promise to revolutionize the railway industry. With large-scale commercialization of these disruptive technologies underway, L2M Rail has its sights set on global expansion, aiming to extend its reach into markets such as the USA, Canada, UK, Malaysia, and the Middle East.
