Device for determining contact forces at rail-wheel contact point, and system for calculating lateral force and the method thereof

We have filed our sixth Indian Patent title “Device for determining contact forces at the rail-wheel contact point, and system for calculating lateral force and the method thereof”. The invention fulfils the foregoing needs by providing an assembly of FBG sensors and a method of measurement of various forces at rail-wheel contact points using FBG sensors in real-time.

FBG sensors are mounted on the rail to detect these forces in terms of strain. An optical instrument, DPU analyzes and processes this strain to generate actual wheel load on the rail in real-time. The system also alarms the driver/users when the lateral force is above the safe limit. The method of force calculation has important significance over train stability and safety problems.
